I thought I would share with you my routine for my face when getting ready for a night out. During the day, although it seems like a lot of make up, I usually go for a more natural looking face. However, I really change it up on a night to look good and so I get some long wear out of it, particularly if it is going on all hours.
So here are my 13 steps to the perfect party makeup …
Step One – Skincare
Before I apply any makeup, I have to make sure my skin is in tip top condition. I start with my cleanser. At the moment, I am using Loreal Paris Skin Perfection micellar water, from Boots here. To tone, I use The Body Shop Seaweed Oil balancing toner here. To finish and hydrate my skin, I use Neutrogena Visibly Clear Oil Free Moisturiser. This helps to even out my skin tone, before I even apply any makeup. You can pick up one here.
Step Two – Primer
I am currently using the Benefit Porefessional matte rescue primer which you can pick up here. My make up works without this, but I find that using the primer means that my makeup lasts me all day long (or night!).
Step Three – Brows
I have a lot of go to brow products but my favourite is the Benefit precisely my brow pencil. It is expensive, but absolutely worth it in my opinion. You can grab one here. I then use Brow Cote to seal the make up to make sure oil/sweat/wear & tear doesn’t affect my brows! I spend so much time on those brows, I definitely don’t want anything to happen to them! You can grab it here. To make my brows stand out even more, I then use Eyelighter pencil under my brow line to highlight and make my skin stand out – you can grab that here.
Step Four – Eyeshadow
I love a good eyeshadow bright colour and this smokey purple palette is amazing for blending in, it’s here. I do love a good smokey eye. If I am going for a more nude look, I use the nude rose eyeshadow palette. I sometimes use an eyeshadow primer beforehand, dependant on how long I want it on for and the type of eyeshadow. I find that this one lasts but you can pick up a primer from Avon.
Step Five – Eyeliner
So I wear a liquid eyeliner on my upper lash line every day but I also use a kohl pencil on my lower lash lid for a special occassion. For the liquid eyeliner, I use Collection Fast Stroke eyeliner. The reason I use this is because I find it has a much better precision than other pens I have used and I get a really decent flick at the end. You can also pick this up for only £2.99 at Boots here. For kohl eyeliner, I often use the Colortrend pencil play eyeliner from Avon but lately I have used this one from seventeen. I love the pigmentation an the smudged look I can create with it. This is also a great price at £2.89 in Boots here.
Step Six – Lashes
If there is one thing that is going to make your face look “done”, then it’s getting your lashes long and full. I always use an eyelash curler to give my eyelashes a base to work with. I have just discovered Maybelline’s lash sensational lash multiplying mascara and I absolutely adore it. I have the longest lashes with this mascara. You can find it here for only £7.99.
Occasionally I will wear false eyelashes but I have to do the at home kit as I can’t wear them for work! I usually buy the £1 sets from Primark or an eyelure from boots.
Step Seven – Foundation
Next, I apply my foundation on my prepped face. I have two go to foundations. The first is the Rimmel fresher skin foundation which I adore. It is the best match for my skin tone, but I find that I do have to be having an okay skin day. For days when my skin is terrible, I use the L’oreal Paris Infallible foundation which is a thicker coverage. Take a look; here and here.
Step Eight – Concealer
Concealer is a must! I use Collection lasting perfection, you can read the review here.
Step Nine – Contour
To contour (&highlight) I use the Nyx wonder stick. This is super easy to use and as some one who doesn’t really do much of the contouring and highlighting this is perfect. I contour my chin, nose and forehead for definition and I highlight my upper cheek bone. You can pick up a Nyx wonder stick here.
Step Ten – Blush
I am currently using (and loving) the Benefit Sugarbomb blusher. This is a four tone blusher which includes a sort of green colour which tones down my red. Mine is a sample but you can get the full size version here.
Step Eleven – Highlighter

Step Twelve – Lips
I then do my lips. Depending on my lips, I go for either a gloss or a lipstick. For my gloss, I go for Sexy MotherPucker from Soap & Glory, the one that I have been using is in Plum available here. My lipstick is currently this little gem from Avon. I love an Avon lipstick, you can pick this shade “Mauve Matters” up here.
Step Thirteen – Setting Powder
I then use a setting spray to give me the longevity when I am out partying.
So, this is how I did my makeup during the festive season. How do you do yours?
